They are called either Chiacchiere, Galani, or Crostoli, depending upon the region, delicious pastries for Carnival according to the original Italian recipe.

Ingredients

400 g
60 g
cold margarine
1 pinch/es of
salt
½ glass
white wine
1 tbsp
sugar
a little bit of
oil

Preparation

  • Put the flour in a bowl, add the sugar, margarine, salt, and wine in the middle, and stir well. The dough must be homogeneous and must not be too soft (use the wine to adjust as necessary).
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin.
  • Cut into strips about 3 cm. (1 in.) wide and fry in a sufficient amount of hot oil.
  • At the end, sprinkle with icing sugar (confectioner's sugar).
