They are called either Chiacchiere, Galani, or Crostoli, depending upon the region, delicious pastries for Carnival according to the original Italian recipe.

Ingredients

400 g
60 g
cold margarine
1 pinch/es of
salt
½ glass
white wine
1 tbsp
sugar
a little bit of
oil

Preparation

  • Put the flour in a bowl, add the sugar, margarine, salt, and wine in the middle, and stir well.
  • The dough must be homogeneous and must not be too soft (use the wine to adjust as necessary).
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin.
  • Cut into strips about 3 cm. (1 in.) wide and fry in a sufficient amount of hot oil.
  • At the end, sprinkle with icing sugar (confectioner's sugar).
