Schär has introduced packaging changes across selected product ranges to reduce the use of plastic while maintaining product quality, freshness, and food safety.
For the biscuit range, Schär has introduced paper-based packaging in place of the previous plastic packaging. This change reduced plastic use in biscuit packaging by 65%, corresponding to approximately 18 tonnes of plastic saved each year.
For the Maestro bread range, Schär removed the plastic tray and reduced the overall package size. These changes reduced plastic use in the packaging by 38%.
Schär Pane Casereccio is also transitioning to recyclable packaging while maintaining the same standards of product quality, safety, and freshness.
Packaging changes are carefully tested to ensure products continue to meet Schär's requirements for quality, freshness, food safety, and protection against gluten cross-contamination. As Schär breads are made without alcohol or preservatives, packaging plays an important role in maintaining product shelf life and protection.
