Vittoria: 26 years old, a coeliac girl living life one flight at a time.

It’s almost Easter time, and last year I spent the April vacations visiting the beautiful city of Vienna. Although it’s obviously a wonderful city all year round, it must be said that during this particular time, it becomes even more attractive, thanks to the nice weather and the blossoms all around. But most of all, the main event is for sure the amazing Easter market at “Schloss Schönbrunn”, the house which once belonged to Princess Sissi.

Apart from a tour around the hundreds of rooms in the palace and its stunning garden, the best way to see this city is surely on foot. A walking tour around the “Ring” will make sure you have a glimpse at the greatness of the once Austrian Empire through the facades of the buildings, from the Opera House to the Klimt Secession Building.

If you build up an appetite from the long walk, the best spot for lunch is “Palmenhaus”, literally a greenhouse where you can eat under the palm trees, right in the heart of Vienna!

The remaining part of the day can be spent at the Museum Quarter, choosing from the many different exhibitions on display!

Here, there's a great spot for either breakfast or a light lunch: “Das Möbel / Das Café” offers a widespread buffet, as well as gluten free bread upon request!

Austrian musicians are well-known worldwide, so why not attend a classical concert inside a church? Almost every weekend, the “Karlskirche” is the venue for many events. From Mozart to Vivaldi, this unique atmosphere will take you back to the XVIII century.

After all this culture, it's nice to stay in the area for dinner: “Figlmüller Bäckerstraße” is the perfect traditional place to have some meat and potatoes, and it's within walking distance from the church.

Otherwise, for a more elegant evening, the best choice is “Skopik & Lohn”, famous for its wonderfully painted roof and. its lovely dishes.

Finally, let’s have some sweet treats from the finest Austrian tradition! During my stay, the only concern I truly had was whether to try the “Sachertorte”, the typical cake for which this city is famous, worldwide.

Luckily, there’s just the right bakery for our coeliac needs! Close to the “Neuer Markt”, right in the city centre, I found the amazing “Kurkonditorei Oberlaa – Stadthaus” with all kinds of sweets and treats you could possibly think of. Not only that: all the tarts are labelled either gluten free, lactose free, or both!
