Like so many new mums, our colleague Stacey battled with her post baby diet, a year later she’s lost 2 stone! Following a number of calls in January from Schär Club members wanting some advice on losing weight whilst following a gluten free diet, Stacey has been kind enough to share her story along with some diet hint and tips.
“You may think it is hard enough following a diet but being gluten free also can make it far more difficult,
I wanted to get back in my skinny jeans, after having a baby, and working in a job surrounded by delicious food, I joined slimming world, and lost two stone, I thought it would be difficult, especially with the temptations at work. How wrong was I!
There are lots and lots of Free Foods/ low fat foods which naturally don’t contain gluten, including fruit, veg, rice, pasta, pulses, fat free dairy products, eggs, meat, fish, and many more.
Slimming world is great when following a gluten free diet, due to the freedom and flexibility. I enjoy Schär White Ciabatta’s as my Healthy Extra ‘B’ choice a few times a week, I don’t like wholemeal bread so I was excited to learn that the Schär White Ciabattas were allowed as a B choice due to their fibre content, they are great for breakfast with poached egg, tomatoes and spring onion.
For lunch I often enjoy jacket potato, with fat free cottage cheese, and lots of speedy salad, sometimes if I am in a rush I will grab Schär Crispbreads and eat with ham and cucumber, perfect at 1 syn each (24 cal)
For dinner my favourite is meal is SW recipe chilli, with the rice and spinach, I really don’t feel like I’m on a diet.
For dessert I enjoy fat free yogurt, with strawberries, and a Schär Rich Tea Biscuit crumbled into it, at only 1.5 syn per biscuit, (36 cal) it satisfies my sweet tooth, and I feel like I’ve had something really naughty
My biggest downfall is snacking, especially at work, I was pleasantly surprised to learn a lot of the Schär Snacks (temptations I am faced with every day) are under 100 calories or low in syn value.
A big thank you for Stacey for sharing her story, if you’ve got a question for Stacey or if you would like any advice on following a balanced gluten free diet, you can get in touch with one of our trained dietitians.
