Are exceptions when eating allowed with coeliac disease?
No, with this disease no exceptions are allowed! The rule is to always remain gluten-free, because your intestinal villi and your immune system react towards gluten, even if you do not feel it or at least not immediately. For example: even if initially everything feels ok, your immune system still reacts and the intestinal villi can get inflamed. It should be clear to you that you can permanently damage your intestine with food containing gluten. In the long run your intestine will not be able to absorb vital nutrients very well anymore. The more exceptions you allow the more your mucous membrane of the small intestine suffers. This can lead to malnutrition which again can lead to further symptoms and secondary diseases. In order to have unburdened fun in everyday life in the long run, we strongly recommend steering clear of portions containing gluten. Nowadays alternative forms of nutrition are actually en vogue and surely your friends will sometimes enjoy tasting your food!
