Are additives gluten-free?
Additives are indicated on food packaging as E-numbers. They extend the food's shelf life, intensify the food's taste, improve its appearance or make cooking it easier. All food additives must be expressly tested and approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Generally additives are gluten-free, but if they do contain gluten, this must be indicated in the ingredients list in accordance with the allergen labelling directive.
